FIREARMS SAFETY & HUNTER EDUCATION

Minnesota law states that all persons born after 12/31/1979 must provide proof of successful completion of a firearms safety or hunter education program in order to purchase a MN hunting license.  This course, along with the accompanying field day, satisfies this requirement.  The purpose of this MN DNR Hunter Education/Firearms Safety course is to promote the safe and responsible use of firearms and hunting equipment and to emphasize the importance of wildlife management and regulations. 

Cost is $13.50 to register for this course PLUS you will need to pay $7.50 to the MN DNR upon successful completion of the course in order to obtain your Hunter Education/Firearms Safety certificate.  Parents are required to attend for the first 30 minutes of the first day of class to complete paperwork.  Participants MUST have their driver’s license or Social Security number and date of birth for this paperwork on the first day of class.  Must be 11 or older as of first day of classAttendance at all classroom dates and field day are MANDATORY in order to comply with MN law.

Wednesdays, Feb. 4–Mar. 11, 5:00-7:00 P.M. + Field day (location & date to be determined; will be a Saturday or Sunday) 

Register by Feb. 1.  Course limited to 15 students.

Fee:  $13.50 for course (plus $7.50 to MN DNR after course completion to get Hunter Safety Certificate from them)



Mixed-Doubles Pickleball

Leader:  Bob Dunsmore

This is a beginner-to-intermediate class for all, ages 14 and up.  Eighteen and under must have an accompanying adult.  Pickleball is a paddle-ball sport that combines elements of badminton, table tennis, and tennis and uses a perforated ball, much like a wiffle ball.  The first class will cover the rules, regulations, and coaching.  The remaining classes will be round-robin play with individuals rotating with other individuals to form new, 2-person teams.  We will provide all equipment except paddles.  Paddles may be purchased at local stores or online.  If you have questions about paddles, contact the instructor at 218-269-5428 prior to the first date.  Register by Dec. 15.

Orientation for Beginners will be Saturday, Dec. 20, 6:00-8:00 P.M.

Regular Schedule:  Saturdays, January 3 through Apr. 11, 6:00-8:00 P.M.

Location: South Ridge School Gym

Driver’s Education  

Instructor:  George Olson  

Open to students 14 years of age and older as of the first day of class.  This will be an in-person class and satisfies the classroom portion of obtaining a driver’s license.  Class will be held Monday evenings and Thursday evenings from 6:00-9:00 P.M. on:

Monday, April 13, 2026 - Makeup Day

One make-up day of Monday, Apr. 13 is scheduled for any lesson you miss.  Any further missed lessons will be made up at an additional charge of $75 per lesson (no allowances will be made), or the course will need to be retaken, and no refund will be given.  There will also be a 1 ½-hour parent meeting with an officer of the State Patrol (date yet to be determined).   Parents and students who attend are eligible for a 10-hour reduction in the number of logged hours needed before students may take their road tests.  Register by Feb. 16; class will be cancelled if the required minimum number of students is not met.
